Collection: Farm Food- Lamb & Gelato

Our sheep are pastured and our lambs are grass-fed. The breeds we raise and the rotational grazing make the meat lean and mild and the sheep milk slightly sweet! Grass-fed makes a difference!

With dairy, grass-fed means that the ewes do get some grain to maintain their health. They can't eat enough grass to stay healthy so we feed a non-GMO feed over winter when they are pregnant, and throughout the milking season. The lambs don't get a typical creep-feed. They have access to the grains the ewes have and will eat that. The addition of some grain improves the lamb's rumen development. We make up for creep feed by lamb sharing with the ewes for at least 3 months, often longer. While this reduces our total milk production, we feel it is better for both the ewes, and lambs.

Lamb sharing creates strong flock bonds, and helps flock culture pass from one generation to the next. As we raise our sheep to be milked, every lamb born has the potential to become a permanent part of the flock as long as they prove to do well in our pasture-based system.

We feel it's the best way to create a circular, regenerative farm that respects the land being farmed on.
